This study introduces an innovative approach to quantify pitcher fatigue, leveraging the rich data provided by the Statcast system. By focusing on detailed pitch-by-pitch data, we aim to uncover how fatigue affects various pitching metrics, potentially impacting a pitcher’s performance within a game. To complement our analytical framework, we also created a Shiny application, enabling a dynamic exploration of pitcher performance data. This tool allows for interactive analysis, offering users the ability to examine and identify pitchers who may benefit from role adjustments based on their fatigue profiles and performance metrics. Integrating this application into our study enriches the decision-making process, providing a practical platform for applying our findings to real-world baseball strategy and pitcher management.
Special thanks to my hackathon teammates Shane Hauck, Jack Hinde, Anthony Vicinanzo, and Jacob Weber!
Through a wide variety of mobile applications, we’ve developed a unique visual system and strategy that can be applied across the spectrum of available applications.

Dave Yount has a terrific future and will immediately contribute to any baseball organization. He displayed versatility, awareness, and a team-first attitude and was an exceptional student in my Sports Management Worldwide "Baseball GM & Scouting" course. Whatever form of Baseball Operations - scouting, player development, or analytics - will benefit from his positive energy and desire to excel. I'm looking forward to seeing what Dave will accomplish in his baseball career, and I strongly recommend him.
To whom it may concern, I would like to extend this letter of recommendation in strong support of Dave. I was a mentor to Dave when he took my Baseball Analytics course with Sports Management Worldwide. During his time in the course, Dave showed tremendous leadership, a great work ethic, and the ability to solve complex baseball problems using analytics. We worked together to construct a predictive model using statcast data that accurately forecasted player stats in future seasons. I advised his team in the Cincinnati Reds Analytics Hackathon where he was able to build an app from scratch that evaluated players and assisted in decision making. Through that project I saw first-hand his leadership to assemble the team, and technical ability to see the end-to-end data analytics project completion. I believe Dave has a bright future in the game and he would be a valuable asset to a Major League front office. I strongly recommend him for any position in Baseball Operations. Dave is constantly learning and improving, which is important given the rapid changes in the workforce and field of analytics. He went above and beyond the requirements for my class – discussion between classes his efforts, questions, opportunities. For background, my courses are focused on the development of baseball professionals and also taken by many well-known people in the industry. Also I am currently head of evangelism at Databricks, the leading platform for enterprise data and AI, with over $43 billion market cap and customers from all industries including professional sport organizations (including the World Champion Texas Rangers and others). In sports, I have been a special assistant to GM of the Baltimore Orioles and created and led the Cub’s analytics department.
I had Dave Yount as a student with Sports Management Worldwide in the Baseball GM & Scouting course. He was a top contributor in the class, and I strongly believe he will have a bright future in our industry. I recommend Dave as an employee with your organization.
